WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s tennis team picked up a midweek victory on Wednesday afternoon at the Oxbridge Academy Courts by defeating Ave Maria University by a score of 8-1. The undermanned Gyrenes were no match for the Fish with AMU claiming a single win in singles as PBA cruised to their eighth win of the season.
Moving outside of NCAA South Region play, the Sailfish (8-9) took on the Gyrenes who had only five available players for the match. This allowed for a default win at No. 3-doubles and No. 6-singles in the match for PBA.
Also head coach Chi Ly was able to utilize deeper into his lineup with a few key players absent from the match.
Mark Heimberger and Nicholas Battistini combined for an 8-3 win at No. 1-doubles while Michael Leonard and Michael Tsoi paired up for an 8-2 victory at No. 2-doubles.
Giuseppe Guarnieri stepped into the No. 1-singles role and came through with a 6-1, 6-2 win while freshman Asti Adams was victorious 6-3, 4-6 10-6 at No. 2-singles.
Other winners on the day for PBA included Kevin Reifler (6-1, 6-1) and Matt Leeds (6-1, 6-0) at Nos. 4 and 5-singles respectively.
PBA will return to action on April 8 when they host Florida Tech at the Oxbridge Academy Courts beginning at 4 pm.
