TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's track team began its season on Saturday at the Tampa Spartans Open.
PBA's day was highlighted by
Joe Basara taking first place in the 3000m race. He set a new school record and a personal best with a time of 8:35.55.
Ethan Wattles also placed in the top ten, finishing ninth with a personal record of 8:46.07. All five of PBA's runners in the event set new personal bests.
Hayden Tank finished 18
th, breaking the nine-minute barrier, 8:56.54.
Jackson Overholt (9:14.83) earned 36
th and
Michael Kirwan (9:16.70) finished in 40
th.
Aedon Lydon set a new personal best as the one representative for PBA in the 5000m race. He finished 13
thwith a time of 15:02.79.
Hans Payne started the day for the Sailfish in the 1500m race. He was the lone competitor for the 'Fish, finishing 26
th with a time of 4:14.71.
Jared Brown represented the Sailfish in the 100m race, finishing ninth at 11.45, just over one-tenth of a second shy of his personal best. Brown also competed in the 200m, finishing 18
th with a time of 23.17.
Carlos Santiago led the way for the Sailfish in the 800m. He came in 17
th place with a time of 2:02.27.
Connor Wallace finished in 33
rd (2:07.78) just ahead of teammate
Andrew Duda (2:08.79) in 34
th.
Jack Colvin also participated in the race, earning 38
th with a time of 2:10.77.
The Sailfish finished the day with the 4x400m relay. The team of Brown, Wattles, Wallace, and Santiago finished sixth with a time of 3:37.52.
PBA competes again on Feb. 28 at the NSU Shark Invite.
