LAKELAND, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team competed at the ITA Division II South Region Championships this past weekend.

The Sailfish started the day with doubles. Luis Eduardo Platas teamed with Juan Fernandez to take on top-seeded Takeshi Taco and Rodrigo Carvalho from Valdosta State. The duo was no easy test for the top-ranked team in the region but came up short 8-5. The team bounced back, taking down Mario Kirkov and Batu Ataseven from Eckerd, 8-4. The duo advanced to the quarterfinals but withdrew due to injury.

Roberto Binaghi and Matthew Young teamed up to face Christian Kearns and Ralph Bartlett from Eckerd. The Sailfish came out on top, 8-4. The squad advanced to earn a matchup against Bernardo Costa and Sebastian Rondon from West Florida. PBA came up short in the round of 16, 8-4.

Young started the day off for PBA in singles. He defeated Tom Rance from Delta State, 7-6, 7-6 (4). Young retired due to injury in the round of 32. Fernandez lost to Chris Fow Kow from Florida Southern, 6-2, 6-1. Fernandez dropped his consolation match against Richard Stoiberer from Rollins, 6-1, 6-3.

Platas dropped his first-round singles match to Fernando Alonso, 6-4, 6-1. Platas earned a win over Titouan Le Maout from Auburn-Montgomery, 5-7, 6-2, 13-11 to advance to the round of 16. Platas' run ended in the quarterfinals against Federico Iturbe, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Binaghi came up short against Tim Riedel from defending national champions Barry University, 7-5, 6-4, 11-9. Binaghi advanced to the round of 16 in the consolation bracket but fell to Simon Luigs from Montevallo, 6-2, 6-4.
