TEMPE, AZ- Alessia Passerini from the Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team entered the ITA national singles rankings at No. 68. Passerini becomes the third women's tennis player in PBA history to be ranked nationally in singles competition. It's the highest ranking for a PBA freshman in program history.
The Italian native (5-3) has tallied five victories this year in singles competition. Passerini started her freshman campaign with a victory over Flagler's Florencia Masardo Brain 4-6,7-5, 6-2 on Feb. 6. On Feb. 10 Passerini defeated Southeastern's Neleah Neiberline 6-4, 6-3. The most notable win for Passerini was a 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 21 Nina Furmaniak from Saint Leo on Feb. 12. Additionally, she defeated Keiser's Kahea Companion 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) on Feb. 17 and Southern New Hampshire's Magdalena Hubickova in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 on Mar. 10.
The 'Fish have notched wins over Southeastern (Feb. 10), Southern New Hampshire (Mar.10), Rockhurst (Mar. 12), Wayne State (Mar. 14), and Hillsdale (Mar. 17.)
The Sailfish (5-7) head into the heart of conference play with games against Eckerd (Mar. 22), Rollins (Mar. 28), No. 3 Nova Southeastern (Mar. 31), Florida Southern (Apr. 2), and Embry Riddle (Apr. 12), to close out the season.
