WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team fell on Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center, where they were swept by No. 10 Florida Southern College.
In doubles play, Florida Southern took the point with wins across all three matches. The duo of Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann secured a 6-0 win over PBA's
Elisa Buhagiar and
Valeria Lopez at No. 2 doubles. Annika Berrendorf and Jolie Miller mirrored this at No. 3 doubles, overpowering
Daniela Ortiz and
Sunshine Tarpey 6-0. The sweep was sealed when Kennedi Brown and Josie Holderbach triumphed 6-0 against
Virginia Borja and
Alina Hoermann at No. 1 doubles.
Moving into singles, Florida Southern maintained their momentum. Elin Axler kicked things off with a 6-3, 6-1 win over
Sunshine Tarpey at No. 6 singles. Following that, Jolie Miller defeated
Daniela Ortiz 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, pushing the dual score to 3-0. Emily Jennewein, ranked No. 48, clinched the overall match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over
Valeria Lopez at No. 3 singles.
The Moccasins continued their sweep in the remaining singles matches. Ronja Scheuermann earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory against
Virginia Borja at No. 2 singles. At No. 1 singles, No. 23 ranked Josie Holderbach overcame
Alina Hoermann 6-4, 6-1. Annika Berrendorf wrapped up the day with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win over
Elisa Buhagiar at No. 4 singles, cementing the 7-0 win for Florida Southern.
The Sailfish head south for a midweek conference match with Nova Southeastern at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
