LAKELAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team competed in Division II Men's & Women's South ITA Regional Championships over the weekend at Florida Southern College. For the Sailfish, it was the first fall tournament they've competed in under new head coach Carlos Cardona. 

In doubles competition, the tandem of Rodolfo Hasegawa and Erik Carlsten made it to the round of 32. They defeated Embry Riddle's Tim Loerwink and Luke Paschal in the first round 8-3. Roberto Binaghi and Joao Vellosso also teamed up to compete in the doubles bracket. They dropped their match to a team from Delta State, 8-1.

The singles competition featured first-round victories from PBA seniors Umberto Rosi and Jorge Santamaria. Rosi beat Delta State's Emilie Le Terrier in two sets 7-5, 6-4. Seeded at No. 19,  Santamaria picked up a two-set victory over Arthur Fonseca  7-5, 6-0. Santamaria was knocked out by No.18 seed Ignacio Martinez in three sets 1-6, 6-4, (10-8.) Rosi would lose to University of West Alabama's Nutti Jokinen in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Binaghi dropped both of his matches in singles play. He lost his first match to Embry-Riddle's Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo, 6-1, 7-5. He was forced to retire in his consolation match due to injury. Hasegawa also competed in the singles bracket. He also came up short in the main bracket against Loerwink, 6-3, 6-3.
