Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis evened their record at 5-5 with a 6-3 victory over Chowan University on Wednesday. The Sailfish will have two more matches in Hilton Head before returning home over the weekend.
PBA picked up four singles wins and two in doubles as the Sailfish won for the second straight day. Bella Mermersky was victorious in singles play, defeating Cynthia Carrier in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Vanessa Buchbinder was also able to pick up a straight sets victory, defeating Victori Smolchenkova 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3.
Down at the bottom of the lineup Johann Kern and Michaela Mignemi were also winners, both in straight sets. Mignemi dropped just four games to Angelique Gouin for her win at No. 6 while Kern pulled out a much closer 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at No. 5.
In doubles play both Kern and Mignemi also picked up wins as Kern teamed with Romina Bolagy to win at No. 2, 8-4. Mignemi paired up with Nicole Reich for an 8-6 win at No. 3.
PBA returns to the court on Thursday morning to take on Davis & Elkins at 8:30 a.m.
