Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis was unable to pick up a win before taking on a trip to South Carolina next week, falling 7-2 to Tampa.
Bella Mermersky and Michaela Mignemi were the lone 'Fish able to pick up victories on the day. Both players won easily in straight sets with Mignemi defeating Danielle Beyes 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 position. Mermersky was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2.
The Sailfish dropped two singles matches in three sets as Yuliia Russu and Vanessa Buchbinder were unable to take the decisive third set. Russu dropped a tight first set, 7-5 before dominating the second 6-0. In the third her opponent – Caroline Lozo – was able to pull away for a 6-4 win. Down at No. 4 Buchbinder also fell behind after dropping the first set to Lilley Nice 6-2. After Buchbinder took the second 6-4 it was Nice who took the third, 10-5.
The Spartans swept doubles play with PBA seeing their best showing at No. 3 as Romina Bolagay and Mignemi fell 8-5.
The Sailfish are back in action on Tuesday as they kick off four matches in four days in Hilton Head during their Spring Break trip. The first match is against Tiffin at 8 a.m.
