Sailfish Drop SSC Doubleheader to Rollins in Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Pam Beach Atlantic baseball saw their 12-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Sailfish dropped a doubleheader to Rollins College by scores of 10-6 and 8-7.  The Sailfish fall to 18-7 on the season with the loss and sit at 7-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.  Rollins improves to 4-2 in SSC play and 16-8 overall.

The No. 24/28 ranked Sailfish will return to the field on Tuesday, as they will take on No. 3/6 ranked Flagler at 6 p.m. in St. Augustine, Fla.

Game 1: Rollins 10, PBA 6

The Sailfish got off to a great start on Saturday, as they jumped on Rollins starter Brad Case for three early runs.  Kyle Simon and Bobby Brennan both had RBI singles in the first inning, giving the 'Fish a 2-0 lead after one.  Connor Rowland added an RBI single in the second, giving PBA a three-run lead.

The Tars got one run back in the third inning, as Sailfish starter Sean Horner ran into some control issues and walked in a run.  The Tars had a big inning in the fourth, scoring three runs and taking the lead.  They extended their lead with a five-run sixth inning, with a couple defensive miscues from the Sailfish aiding them along the way.

The 'Fish were down 10-6 in the ninth, and mounted a furious comeback, as Jake Summey and Mike Santaromita singled home runs and Riley Herold had a bases-loaded walk to bring the tying run to the plate.  The Tars got out of the jam however to seal the victory.

Herold and Sean Houck were the lone Sailfish with multiple hits in the game, as the 'Fish collected 11 hits in total.

Game 2: Rollins 8, PBA 7

The Sailfish struck first in the final game of the day as well, as Jake Summey tagged and scored on a Riley Herold fly ball in foul territory down the left-field line in the first inning.

Rollins tied the game in the second on a solo home run, and took a 4-1 lead over the next couple innings as they bounced Sailfish starter Johnnie Schneider from the game in the fifth inning.

The Sailfish got a run back in the sixth on a passed ball, and tied the game later in the frame as Eddie Vicinanza smoked a double to left-center field, driving in a pair of runs.  Ryan Johnson gave the 'Fish a lead later in the inning with an RBI single to center field.

The Sailfish extended their lead in the seventh as Danny Tufariello hit a home run to right field, his second of the season.

After the Tars got a run back in the seventh, Johnson doubled home a run in the eighth, as he laced a ball over the left fielders head, scoring Sean Houck, who pinch ran for A.J. Puigcerver after he singled.

The Sailfish took their two-run lead to the ninth inning, but a defensive miscue and a couple seeing-eye singles led to Rollins scoring three runs and earning the comeback victory.

Johnson finished 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs.
