ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped their third straight game on Tuesday night, falling to the No. 3/11 ranked Flagler College Saints by a 7-4 final score. The Saints took advantage of three Sailfish errors on the day, as they scored four unearned runs. The Sailfish fall to 18-8 on the season as Flagler improve to 23-4 with the victory.
The Sailfish were off to a promising start on Tuesday, as Connor Rowland singled through the right side in the first inning, plating Jake Summey who reached on an infield single to leadoff the game. Rowland came around to score later in the inning on a throwing error by Flagler pitcher Jett Walsh.
Flagler got one run back in the bottom of the inning off Lance Fry, who was making his third start of the season for the Sailfish. The Saints took advantage of a two-out Sailfish error in the second inning, as they scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead.
The Saints added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to open up a commanding 7-2 lead, as Walsh was in control of the Sailfish lineup for most of the game.
Summey picked up his third hit of the game in the eighth inning, and came around to score on a Carlos Lara sacrifice fly to center field.
The 'Fish really made things interesting in the ninth inning, as Danny Tufariello and A.J. Puigcerver singled with one out, and Summey singled with two outs, bringing the tying run up to the plate. After Marcos Perez worked a tough walk off Saints closer Ethan Jones, Rowland struck out to end the Sailfish threat in the ninth.
Summey finished 4-for-5 on the night, scoring two runs and driving in another. Tufariello also had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Flagler racked up 14 hits in the game, as Aaron Anderson led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate.
The Sailfish will return to play on Friday, Feb. 23 as they will head to Nova Southeastern for a three-game Sunshine State Conference series.
