FLORENCE, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis got their season started on Friday night in the Florence City Tournament hosted by Francis Marion. The Sailfish fell to the host Patriots 5-1 as the match was played to completion in the eight-team tournament.

The 'Fish (0-1) picked up their lone victory in singles play as Pietro de Silva was a straight sets winner, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5. De Silva was able to beat Paul Meuwissen to start his junior season with a win. Three other singles matches were unfinished with the 'Fish competing in all three.

Carlos Niemeyer was up a set on Matheo Espinoza at No. 6, taking the first 7-6 (4). Espinoza was leading in the second 4-2 when the match was ended. In the second flight Pato Zarazua was in the third set and leading 4-2 while Philipp Hoffmann was tied 5-5 in the second in the top position. Hoffmann was down a set after dropping the first 7-6 (1). Also in singles play, Rodolfo Hasegawa fell in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

Doubles play wasn't kind to the Sailfish as the Patriots (1-1) swept the 'Fish. Two of the three matches ended 8-5 with Hoffmann and Bernardo Ferreira falling 8-4.

The Sailfish are back in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Augusta. The Jags fell to Wingate in their opening match of the tournament on Friday. Teams will complete play on Saturday with a final match at 3 p.m.
