Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis fought hard against No. 6 ranked Flagler on Sunday afternoon, but fell short of pulling off the upset, as they dropped their weekend finale by a 6-3 score. The 'Fish fall to 3-3 on the season with Sunday's defeat.
The 'Fish were victorious at No. 1 doubles, as Yuliia Russu and Taylor Conti were able to pull off an 8-6 victory. Vanessa Buchbinder and Johanna Kern lost at No. 2 doubles by a 3-8 score. Michaela Mignemi and Romina Bolagay put up a good fight in their doubles match, but fell just short as they lost 8-6.
Russu was forced to retire from her singles match late in the first set, which gave Flagler a commanding 3-1 lead in the match. Bella Mermersky was able to pull off a nice victory in her lone match of the day, as she defeated Camilla Ramazzini 7-5, 6-2.
Unfortunately for the Sailfish, Conti and Buchbinder lost their singles matches and Flagler clinched the victory. Kern, competing at No. 5 singles, won her match 6-3, 7-5, as Mignemi lost her match in a tiebreak 3-6, 7-5, 3-10.
The Sailfish will now prepare to open up Sunshine State Conference play as they will host Rollins College on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m.
