Men's Tennis Earns Fifth Straight Victory, Takes Down St. Thomas 6-3

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 46 Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis won for the fifth straight time on Saturday, defeating St. Thomas 6-3 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. PBA has won nine of their last 10 with the lone loss coming against D1 East Carolina.

The ‘Fish (10-3) continued their success in doubles, picking up two points as both Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira as well as Philipp Hoffmann and Thomas Salmon won for the fourth straight match. The top duo of Lenz and Ferreira had the easier time on Saturday, defeating Kevin Cubela and Mauricio Fernandez 8-2. Hoffmann and Salmon were pushed but came away with an 8-6 win over Juan Abia and Brandon Vilez.

Both Salmon and Lenz also picked up wins in singles play as the two bookends of the lineup were able to do so in straight sets. Salmon only dropped two games in his 6-1, 6-1 win over Vilez at the sixth spot. Lenz, playing at number one for just the second time all season, took down Cubela 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva were also winners in singles action. Zarazua played for the first time out of the top spot, earning the victory at number two, 6-2, 6-3 over Fabrice Bissainthe. Down at number five, de Silva defeated Fernandez 6-2, 6-3 in the match the secured the victory for the Sailfish.

PBA will have the week off before heading to Lakeland next Saturday to take on Florida Southern in an SSC match at 1 p.m.
