Women's Tennis Grabs 7-2 Victory over Hillsdale College

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 39 Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis snapped a mini two-game skid with a 7-2 victory over Hillsdale College on Monday evening. The Sailfish improve to 7-6 while the Chargers fall to 8-8.

The Sailfish fell behind early in the match, dropping both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-6. Valerie Nagovitcina and Maja Jovic picked up their first win together this season with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 singles to send the ‘Fish into singles play down 2-1.

Things continued to go in the direction of the Sailfish in singles play, dropping just two sets in sweeping the six flights. Michaela Mignemi was the first off the court after a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at No. 5. Nagovitcina and Teona Tatishvili put the Sailfish up 4-1 after claiming victory at the top two flights. Nagovitcina defeated Halle Hyman 6-3, 6-1 while Tatishvili won 6-2, 6-1 over Dana Grace Buck.

Taylor Conti secured the team victory for PBA with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 before Maja Jovic and Dezi Bowman battled to victories in three sets. Jovic took down Sydney Delp at No. 4 with a 10-8 third set win. Jovic took the first set 6-2 before dropping the second 4-6. Bowman battled back after losing the first 4-6 to Julia Formentin then forced a decisive final set with a 6-1 second set. Bowman picked up her second win of the season with a 12-10 victory in the third.

The Sailfish will have an extended break before getting back on the court on March 31 as they host Eckerd College at 3:30 p.m.
