Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis team traveled south on Wednesday to take on the No. 4 ranked Barry University Buccaneers. The Sailfish battled tough in several matches, but fell by a final score of 8-1.
Barry University took all three doubles competitions on the afternoon. Yoanna Peshev and Valerie Nagovitcina put up the best fight in doubles, as they fell in No. 1 doubles 8-6. Taylor Conti and Kathi Tesar also hung tough in No. 2 doubles, as the team lost by an 8-5 score.
The Sailfish forced three sets in several matches but were only able to take No. 3 singles as Yoanna Peshev defeated Ana Pain. Tesar was defeated by No. 11 ranked Sonja Larsen 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. Nagovitcina was able to force a third-set tie-break but lost 6-3, 2-6, (10-5). Teona Tatishvili forced a first-set tie-break but fell by a final of 7-6 (7-2), 6-0. Maja Jovic was defeated in No. 5 singles after winning the first set.
The Sailfish will be back in action Saturday morning against the University of Tampa. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
