Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In their final match before meeting the defending national champions, No. 39 Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis picked up a 7-2 win over crosstown foe Keiser University on Thursday.
The Sailfish (2-1) rebounded after falling on the road last Sunday as they get ready for the preseason No. 1 and defending NCAA D2 Champion Pirates from Armstrong State University on Sunday at 1 p.m. The No. 30 PBA men will take on No. 3 Armstrong State at the same time at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
PBA got off to a strong start in doubles action on Thursday as both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles earned easy victories over the Seahawks. Valerie Nagovitcina and Yoanna Peshev cruised to victory in the top position over Laura Ortega and Livia Toth, 8-1. Teona Tatishvili and Michaela Mignemi didn’t drop a game in their 8-0 win in the third spot.
The ‘Fish might have swept the match if not for a pair of tiebreaks. Kathi Tesar and Taylor Conti fell in No. 2 doubles 9-8 (1) to Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia and Garcia also picked up a singles win at No. 4 over Maja Jovic 5-7, 6-1, 10-3.
Nagovitcina earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles, playing in the top spot of the lineup for the first time this season. The Russian native defeated Laura Ortega 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
PBA won the other four singles matches in straight sets as both Taylor Conti (No. 3) and Mignemi (No. 5) cruised to victory. Conti won over Samantha Guy 6-2, 6-1 while Mignemi downed Livia Toth 6-0, 6-2. Dezi Bowman picked up a win (6-2, 7-5) over Caroline Bostrom at No. 6 while Teona Tatishvili defeated Teodora Stanciu 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
