SAINT LEO, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s and women’s tennis teams both took on Saint Leo University as counterparts on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Leo Tennis Center with the No. 7-ranked (ITA) Lions’ women prevailing 9-0 over the Sailfish and the No. 4-ranked (ITA) SLU men’s team narrowly defeating the PBA men by a 5-4 count.

The Sailfish (11-8) men’s team was leading 4-2 after doubles and the top-half of singles but the strong back-end of the Lions (16-4) lineup did enough to offset the team’s shaky play at the top.

Romain Nowaczyk and Nicolas Uryson had big days for the Sailfish as the top tandem for PBA prevailed 8-3 at No. 1-doubles while both earned wins in singles. Nowaczyk defeated No. 40-ranked Aloua Adjenak 6-4 in the opening set before Adjenak retired trailing 4-0 in the second set. Uryson, ranked No. 47 in singles, knocked off Bruno Sisti 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2-singles.

Mark Heimberger continued the trend for PBA with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3-singles as he defeated SLU’s Victor Lozier however the solid play of the Lions players at Nos. 4-6 in singles would be the difference.

On the women’s side it was a more dominant showing by the now 17-4 Lions team as they cruised through doubles play while seeing a sweep through singles. The Sailfish (14-8) best showing came at No. 5-singles where freshman Maja Jovic was defeated 4-6, 6-2, 7-3 before retiring.

The men’s team will wrap up their home schedule by hosting Barry University on Monday, April 14th at 3:30 pm.
