KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Sailfish women’s tennis team battled an out-of-state team in Alma (Mich.) College on Monday afternoon in a neutral-site contest in Kissimmee, Fla. The ‘Fish had little trouble and ended up knocking off the Scots by a 9-0 score to improve their record to 4-5 on the season.
Senior Jessica Wharton and freshman Maja Jovic moved up to assume the No. 1-doubles position on Monday and started the solid day for PBA with an 8-2 win followed by an 8-1 win by Vilja Vahatalo and Liddy Robinson at No. 2-doubles.
Freshman Samantha Grim and senior Maria Jimenez rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-0 victory at No. 3-doubles.
Newcomer Joanna Peshev stepped into the No. 1-singles position for the second time this season and produced a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win while Wharton produced an identical 6-1, 6-0 tally at No. 2-singles.
Vahatalo and Jovic followed with straight set wins at Nos. 3 and 4-singles while Robinson and Grim each tallied 6-1, 6-0 wins at Nos. 5 and 6-singles respectively.
The ladies will be off from regular game action until Mar. 6 when they will take on Montana State-Billings at 3 pm back in Kissimmee.
