WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The No. 21-ranked Sailfish women’s tennis team bounced back from Saturday’s loss versus No. 19-ranked Rollins College by sweeping another nationally-ranked foe in St. Thomas University on Tuesday afternoon at the Oxbridge Academy Courts. The Sailfish knocked off the No. 19-ranked (NAIA) Bobcats in dominating fashion by sweeping STU by a score of 9-0.
The victory improves PBA to 13-5 on the season as they will have a quick turnaround to their next match as they will host Seton Hill (Pa.) University on Wednesday at 4 pm.
Veena Vasquez and Victoria Baca led the way in doubles action as the No. 1 duo reeled off an 8-4 win followed by 8-3 and 8-5 wins respectively by the PBA doubles tandems at No. 2 and 3-doubles respectively.
Vasquez took care of business at No. 1-singles as well with a 6-3, 7-5 win while Baca collected a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2-singles.
With the match nearing its clinching point for PBA, the Fish saw senior Natalia Trotter finish things off with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3-singles.
Vilja Vahatalo produced a bit lengthier time at No. 4-singles but still came away victorious as she posted a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win.
Maria Jimenez and Liddy Robinson both claimed first set victories in singles before the match was clinched for PBA.
