SAINT LEO, Fla.- In a battle of closely-ranked teams, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team lost 6-3 on Saturday afternoon as they took on Saint Leo University in their first road match of the season. With the Lions ranked just ahead of the Sailfish at No. 8 in the latest regional rankings, the Fish were unable to make a comeback after the Lions took two of three doubles and earned victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

The loss for PBA evens their record for the season at 1-1 after defeating No. 18-ranked Florida Tech earlier this week at Gaines Park.

Laura Kemkes and Emilyl Singleton teamed up for SLU at No. 1 doubles and defeated PBA’s Veena Vasquez and Leydi Zora by a close count of 9-7.

Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter evened things up for the Fish by tallying an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles before Jeanette McDonald and teammate Adrianna Dszkiewicz earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles for SLU.

With Vasquez and Baca each falling at the top two slots in singles, it would be Zora and No. 6-singles player, freshman Alexis Anntista who would tally the final two PBA victories as Zora posted a comeback win of 4-6, 6-3 ,10-7 and Antista registering a 6-2, 6-2.

The Fish will be back to the tennis court on February 9th when they host Southeastern University at 3 pm at Gaines Park.
