MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic Men’s Tennis team opened their spring schedule against a tough opponent in #2 Barry University on Thursday afternoon. The Sailfish played well at times and were very competitive throughout the match, but ultimately fell to the Bucs 9-0.
The Buccaneers left no doubts about their early season ranking, as the Sailfish started out slow losing all 3 doubles matches and ended just as slow losing all 6 singles matches.
The lone bright spot of the afternoon came when Freshman Krasimir Atanasov (Sofia, Bulgaria) took Barry’s #1-singles star Ales Svigeli down to the wire. Anatansov dropped the first set 6-3, but showed some resolve and recovered to win the second set 5-7. In an epic 3rd set, Svigeli managed to win a tiebreaker 10-8 and the match 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
The Sailfish (0-1) will look to rebound tomorrow at home against another Sunshine State opponent in St. Leo University.
