DURANGO, Colo.- Opening up their second tournament of the young season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team came away unscathed as they took down Montana State University at Billings by a perfect 3-0 score in the opening game of the Fort Lewis College Tournament in Durango, Colorado.

Utilizing a balanced attack, the Sailfish came out on top in three competitive games against the likes of MSU-Billings with the scores of 25-23, 28-26, and 25-20.

“By the third game our defense really started to gel and play the way we know we are capable,” said head coach Beth Avila.

“Jen Eldridge passed amazingly and really help set up our attack. Overall I thought we stayed strong against a solid opponent,” continued the first-year head coach of the Fish.

Senior Brittany Erickson led the way for the Fish as six players registered at least five kills with Erickson pacing the team with eight total kills in the three game match. Erickson also tied with fellow senior teammate Emily Ryerson for the team lead in digs with eight.

Senior Chrissy Gulden followed Erickson in the kills department with seven while Ryerson and freshman Allie Warren each chipped in six kills each. Once again splitting the setting duties was Ryerson and freshman Jessica Way who tallied 16 and 18 assists respectively.

Liz Fugate continued to provide the Fish with a stable force in the middle as she collected six blocks (five assists and one solo) while adding in five kills and just one hitting error for a .400 hitting percentage.

The Fish continue their tournament play with a match later today against Abilene Christian University followed by two more matches on Saturday.
