Volleyball Storms Back on Tritons, 3-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team took down the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday afternoon inside the Rubin Arena. After dropping the first set, the Sailfish stormed back to take the next three and the win. Kaley Board, who went down with an apparent injury in Friday's match against Rollins, came back and led the Sailfish with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .378.

"A great, well-contested match today. Our pins were awesome," said Coach Jeff Huebner. "Kaley led the way and was so reliable as a point scorer for us the whole match."

The Sailfish faced adversity early in the match, finding themselves down 19-14 in the first set. However, the Sailfish went on a run and fought all the way back to tie the set at 23 and again at 25. The Sailfish had two attempts to extend the set even further, but a pair of attacking errors from PBA allowed the Tritons to take the first set of the match.

With momentum on their side, the Tritons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set. The Sailfish didn't allow the early knockdown to set them back, and they got right back on their feet.

PBA fought back and won the next three points in the set to get back into the match. The second set of the match was tight all the way until the end when two consecutive kills from Kaley Board and Sydney Corbett, respectively gave the Sailfish a 26-24 set win.

Moving into the third set, PBA started pulling away, taking a 15-9 lead at one point. The Tritons didn't roll over and brought the score back within two points at 17-15. That would be the closest Eckerd would get in the set with a couple of Kills from Sydney Corbett and Nae Jordan put things out of reach with two errors from Eckerd sealing the set for the 'Fish.

"Defensively, we did a really good job holding their offense and point scoring throughout while serving very tough," said Coach Huebner.

With all the momentum on the side of the 'Fish, they looked to close the match out in the fourth set. Both teams traded points up to 9-9 in the fourth set. The Sailfish went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding lead with the match on the line. The Tritons burned both timeouts in what would prove to be the final set to try and quell the Sailfish momentum. Kelsey Rogers got the final kill of the game with a nice touch over the net, the ball fell perfectly in between a convergence of Tritons and the Sailfish took the win.

Kaley Board led the way for the 'Fish with 18 kills. Sydney Corbett and Nae Jordan were right behind her with 18 and 12 kills, respectively. Grace Reynolds set up the 'Fish with 44 assists in the match.

"Grace found her rhythm with every hitter at some point during the match and continues to be elite, while Maggie finished her best week of the year for us," concluded Coach Huebner. "Can't wait to get on the road for the second half of conference play."

Next, The Sailfish look to keep the winning feeling going when they head Florida Southern next Friday night, October 31st at 7:00 p.m. in Lakeland.
