Sailfish Baseball Team Unable to Hold Off Panthers

Box Score

MELBOURNE, Fla.- After a trip to the West Palm Beach area fueled a late-inning rally on Friday night, the Florida Tech Panthers welcomed in the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team on Saturday for a pair of games in the afternoon. FIT came out ahead 11-5 in the opener.

The Sailfish opened up a 2-1 lead in the second inning with a pair of runs to back starter Owen Grau (Kalamazoo, Mich.) in the early going. Catcher Josh Stedham drove home both runs with a two-run double to get the Fish on the board. PBA would plate two more runs in the top of the third inning as they opened up a solid 4-1 advantage.

After second-baseman Mariano Jimenez (Bradenton, Fla.) doubled to leadoff the inning, fellow senior Zach Grau (Kalamazoo, Mich.) sent Jimenez and himself trotting home as he launched a two-run homerun to right-centerfield.

The early Sailfish lead would be severely cut into in the bottom half of the third inning as FIT plated a pair of runs of their own to put the score at 4-3.

The Panthers would erupt for six more runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The only other run-scoring production for PBA came in the eighth inning as Joaquin Valdes (Miami, Fla.) drove home Nick Norley (N. Palm Beach, Fla.) on a sacrifice fly.

Right-hander Owen Grau took the loss for PBA as the Sailfish drop to 2-16 on the season. Tony Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa.) registered a perfect game at the plate as the slugging first-baseman finished 4-4 and scored a run.
