WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball libero Sofia Augusto has been named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is her second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Augusto anchored the Sailfish defense across two matches last week, recording 47 digs in eight sets while averaging 5.88 digs per set.
The sophomore opened the week with 13 digs against Barry on Sept. 24 while posting a perfect 1.000 reception percentage on 22 attempts. She followed with a career-best performance at Florida Tech on Sept. 26, recording 34 digs in PBA's five-set match against the Panthers.
Augusto also provided steady work in serve receive throughout the week, successfully handling 54 of 55 reception opportunities for a .981 reception percentage. She added seven assists and one service ace while helping the Sailfish continue to compete against two conference opponents on the road.
For the week, Augusto averaged 5.88 digs, 0.88 assists and 0.13 service aces per set. Her 47 digs represented a consistent defensive presence for the Sailfish throughout the two-match stretch.
PBA volleyball is back in action on Thursday against Florida Southern at 6 p.m
