Volleyball Falls to No. 10 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team lost to Barry 3-0 on Thursday at the Health & Sports Center, falling by set scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-20.

"A tough match on the road for the 'Fish today," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "We saw some good growth from Katie, and Sofia out there today, along with Simi playing her best match as a Sailfish. Looking forward to another opportunity Saturday."

The Sailfish finished with 30 kills and a .009 hitting percentage, while Barry hit .337 and totaled 12.5 blocks. The 'Fish recorded 14 kills and hit .140 in the third set after finishing below zero in each of the first two sets.

Brighten Sedmack led the Sailfish with eight kills and nine and a half points, adding an ace and a block. Katie Silcott posted 24 assists and added four digs. Sofia Augusto collected a team-high 13 digs as libero. Simi Kapustova recorded three kills while hitting .429 and added two blocks.

The Sailfish stayed even early in the first set, answering Barry's first two points and tying the score at 7-7 on Augusto's kill. Barry then scored six straight points to move ahead 13-7, and the 'Fish got back within 14-11 behind a Sedmack kill and a block by Ava McIntyre and Kapustova. Barry pulled away again and took the set 25-15.

The Sailfish cut an 8-3 deficit to 9-7, with Kaelynn Sims and Sedmack putting away kills during the push. Barry answered later in the set with five straight points after Bergen Waitman's kill made it 14-11. Sims added another kill for the 'Fish, but Barry closed out the set 25-12.

The Sailfish built a 17-11 lead on a Sedmack kill, but Barry scored the next nine points to move in front 20-17. Sims, Sedmack and Sydney Corbett answered with kills as the 'Fish got back within 21-20, but Barry took the final four points to close the set 25-20.

Up next, the Sailfish volleyball team travels to Melbourne, Fla., to face Florida Tech on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m.
