WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team lost to Florida Southern 3-0 on Thursday at Rubin Arena, with set scores of 20-25, 19-25 and 24-26.
The Sailfish were held below .200 hitting in each set and finished at .093 with 32 kills and 22 attack errors. FSC hit .284 and held an 11-2 advantage in team blocks, while the 'Fish recorded five aces and 43 digs.
"We saw some things tonight that we can learn from and continue to build on," PBA head coach
Jeff Huebner said. "I want to thank everyone who came out and supported us tonight. There was a great energy in the arena, and the fans made our return feel special. We're grateful for them, and we'll get back to work and keep moving forward."
Sydney Corbett led the Sailfish with nine kills and 10 points while adding seven digs.
Sofia Augusto collected a team-high 14 digs and added two service aces.
Juliana Imbuzeiro finished with 14 assists and six digs.
Ava McIntyre added six kills on 23 attacks.
The Sailfish opened the first set by building a 13-9 lead, with McIntyre supplying key kills and
Lauren Venenga and
Simi Kapustova combining on a block. The Mocs scored the next four points to tie the set at 13-13 and later moved ahead 23-17. The 'Fish answered with a
Leah Burlison kill, an FSC attack error and an Augusto ace to get to 23-20, but the Mocs closed out the set 25-20.
In the second set, the Sailfish answered a 17-12 deficit with three straight points, using a Corbett kill and a Burlison kill from Kapustova to get within 17-15. The 'Fish were still within 21-19 after another Corbett kill, but FSC scored the final four points to take the set 25-19.
In the third set, the Sailfish went ahead 24-23 on a Mocs attack error, but FSC scored the final three points to take the set 26-24. Earlier, the 'Fish opened the set with the first four points, including a
Katie Silcott service ace and a McIntyre kill.
Up next, the Sailfish host Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at Rubin Arena.
