Palm Beach Atlantic Bests Eckerd but Falls Short in Tampa Showdown

TAMPA, Fla. — The Sailfish took charge at the Tampa Beach Volleyball Complex, sailing past Eckerd with a commanding 4-1 victory. Palm Beach Atlantic (4-5) showcased their strength by clinching four out of five matches.

Leading the way in the top spot, Katie Galligan and Angela Goggin delivered a straight-sets win for the 'Fish, overcoming Eckerd's Brooke Hand and Anna Jupin with scores of 21-17, 21-15. In the 2s, Savanna Rogers and Katelyn Nadeau kept the momentum going, dispatching Addie White and Maddie Prois 21-13, 21-13 to put another point on the board.

The 3s battled fiercely, with Sydney Corbett and Cameron Ring pulling through in a thrilling three-set bout against Teagan VanderMey and Ella Kloepper. After capturing the first set 25-23, Corbett and Ring slipped in the second 19-21 but rallied back to clinch the third set 15-13.

On Court 4, Maggie Cox and Zoye Caroline faced a formidable challenge. They grabbed the first set 21-12, but Jessi Meghreblian and Natalie Harvey fought back to take the next two sets 19-21, 12-15. The 5s saw Grace Reynolds and Annika Huhtamaki deliver the final blow, dominating Marti Boser and Emma Samuelson with a 21-8, 21-13 victory to seal the deal for PBA.

Meanwhile for game two, The Sailfish faced a tough matchup against the University of Tampa (5-4), ending in a 0-5 sweep.

In the No. 4 position, Grace Reynolds and Annika Huhtamaki took on Lauren Duke and Jordan Berglin. Reynolds and Huhtamaki fought hard but were defeated in straight sets, 10-21, 15-21, putting Tampa on the board first.

The No. 5 duo, Maggie Cox and Zoye Caroline, went head-to-head with Anna Bayes and Taylor Bedinghaus. Cox and Caroline battled closely, losing narrowly in straight sets, 19-21, 19-21, to give Tampa their second point.

On Court 1, the top-flight match featured Katie Galligan and Angela Goggin against Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe. Galligan and Goggin couldn't break through, losing 17-21, 18-21, as the Wolfe sisters secured the dual victory for Tampa.

Sydney Corbett and Cameron Ring faced off against Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams in the 3s match. The 'Fish were unable to rally, falling 18-21, 13-21, in straight sets.

In the No. 2 spot, Savanna Rogers and Katelyn Nadeau were up against Ka Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson. Despite a strong effort, Rogers and Nadeau were edged out, 19-21, 16-21, as Tampa completed the sweep.

PBA returns to action tomorrow as they face off against USF and Tampa once again for day two of the Tampa Beach Bash.
