BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Sailfish (4-1) faced a tough challenge against Coastal Carolina (1-0) and FIU (1-1),
Falling 0-5 at the FAU Beach Volleyball Complex. The Chanticleers claimed victory by sweeping all five matches.
The first match to finish was the 5s, where Coastal's Jillian Stein and Anna Rita edged out PBA's
Peyton Baro and
Savanna Rogers in three sets, 22-24, 21-19, 15-8.
In the No. 4 flight,
Maggie Cox and
Zoye Caroline of the 'Fish battled it out with Coastal's Courtney Burnham and Madeline Sigmon. After splitting the first two sets 18-21, 21-17, Coastal clinched the third set 17-15.
On Court 3, Coastal's Ava Novello and Ella Wadsworth kept their momentum going, defeating
Sydney Corbett and
Cameron Ring of the Sailfish in straight sets, 21-14, 23-21.
The top flight saw Coastal's Frida Meincke Lyo and Emma Kunaus secure a straight-sets victory over
Maddie Kremer and
Katelyn Nadeau from the 'Fish, with scores of 21-16, 21-17.
In the 2s, Kristyna Koblizkova and Maya McNabney from Coastal came back from a first-set loss to win a three-set bout against
Katie Galligan and
Angela Goggin of PBA, 23-25, 21-18, 15-13, after the overall match had been decided.
The 'Fish notched their sole victory at the No. 2 spot against FIU.
The match kicked off with the 5s, where FIU's Nikelle Lander and Sarah Boyle overcame the Sailfish duo of
Peyton Baro and
Savanna Rogers, taking both sets 21-9, 21-15, and giving FIU an early lead.
On Court 4, Elizabeth Nye and Hailey Prodan from FIU added another point by defeating Palm Beach Atlantic's
Maggie Cox and
Zoye Caroline in straight sets, 21-16, 21-19, extending FIU's advantage.
FIU's Isabella Pereira and Kendra Brown secured a straight-sets win over
Sofia Augusto and
Annika Huhtamaki in the No. 3 flight, with scores of 21-10, 21-16, marking the critical third point for FIU.
Despite the decision already being clinched, the top flight showcased a spirited contest. FIU's Katarina Drozd and Brianna Luoma edged out Palm Beach Atlantic's
Maddie Kremer and
Katelyn Nadeau, finishing 21-10, 23-21. However, the 'Fish found success at the No. 2 spot, where
Sydney Corbett and
Cameron Ring battled to a three-set triumph over Hanna Gubik and Nicole Robison, closing with scores of 21-15, 16-21, 15-9.
PBA looks to bounce back tomorrow for Day 2 of the Beach Burrow Bash as they take on Boise State at 10am and FAU at 2pm.
