WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball forward Christian Kirkland was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, following a dominant two-game conference stretch.
 
Kirkland anchored the Sailfish defense during a 2–0 SSC week with wins over Embry-Riddle and Saint Leo, averaging 2.5 blocks and 5.5 rebounds per game while serving as a consistent rim protector in the paint. He totaled five blocks, altered numerous additional shots, and helped limit second-chance opportunities throughout the week.
 
On the road victory at Embry-Riddle, Kirkland posted three blocks and six rebounds, controlling the interior and forcing opponents to adjust their shot selection around the basket. He followed with another strong defensive performance against Saint Leo, recording two blocks and five rebounds while maintaining verticality and defending without fouling.
 
Kirkland also made his presence felt on offense against Saint Leo. He scored a season-high 19 points with four assists at home against the Lions.
 
The honor marks Kirkland's second SSC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season.
