Beach Volleyball Remains Undefeated at AVCA Championship Tournament

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team competed in challenge round two for the second day of the AVCA Small College Championship Tournament. The No. 3 seeded Sailfish competed against the No. 12 seeded Wildcats and the No. 6 seeded Badgers. The Sailfish were seen sweeping both Wayne State (Neb.) and Spring Hill to remain undefeated in the tournament. 

With the pair of wins today, PBA places themselves in the Gold Bracket along with: Texas A&M – Kingsville, Spring Hill, Tampa, Colorado Mesa, and Concordia – Irvine.

MATCH 1 | PBA: 3, WSC: 0
The No. 3 seeded Sailfish started the day against the No. 12 seeded Wildcats. PBA worked ahead early to secure the 3-0 sweep. The No. 2 position, Camdyn Albrecht and Katelyn Nadeau, and the No. 5 position, Desi Waterman and Angela Goggin, did not finish their respective matches. Their flights did not alter the Sailfish's final results.

The No. 1 pair, Anna Dunbar and Serena Baumgart, worked quickly to record the victory over their opponents with scores of 21-10 and 21-12. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Annika Huhtamaki and Abby Plevin who handled business with scores of 21-8 and 21-11. In the No. 4 position, Sydney Corbett and Savannah DeCarlo made quick work of their opponents with scores of 21-14 and 21-14 to secure the sweep and place PBA in the Gold Bracket for Saturday.

MATCH 2 | PBA: 3, SHC: 1
The Sailfish continued to keep the vibes high as they prepared to face No. 6 seed Spring Hill College. PBA was seen dropping their first set of the tournament, but still bested their opponent, 3-1. The No. 1 position, Baumgart and Dunbar did not finish their respective matches. Their flights did not alter the Sailfish's final results.

The No. 2 pair, Albrecht and Nadeau, swept their opponents with scores of 21-15 and 21-16. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Huhtamaki and Plevin who battled against their opponent but fell just short, 21-16 and 21-13.
In the No. 4 position, Corbett and DeCarlo rallied late in the second set to secure the set win, posting scores of 21-13 and 22-20. The No. 5 position featured Goggin and Waterman who secured the victory with scores of 21-18 and 21-12 over their opponent.

Palm Beach Atlantic will continue to battle tomorrow, April 19, at the AVCA Small College Championship Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala. PBA received a bye through the first round of the Gold Bracket, seeing them face the winner of Tampa and Colorado Mesa at 12:10 PM (CST).
