Beach Volleyball Collects Runner-Up Finish at SSC Tournament

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team fought their way through the loser's bracket on day two of the inaugural Sunshine State Conference beach volleyball tournament. PBA made a run, besting No. 4 seeded Mocs and No. 3 seeded Lions to compete in the Championship match. The 'Fish collected a runner-up finish after falling short to No. 1 seed Spartans. 

MATCH 1 | PBA: 3, FSC: 1
The No. 2 seeded Sailfish started the day against the No. 4 seeded Mocs. PBA rallied early to secure the 3-1 victory and advance to the SSC Semifinals. In the No. 1 position, Serena Baumgart and Anna Dunbar did not finish their match. Their flight did not alter the Sailfish results.

The No. 2 pair, Camdyn Albrecht and Katelyn Nadeau, fought with grit against their opponent to secure scores of 21-16 and 22-20. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Annika Huhtamaki and Abby Plevin, seeing them work through a difficult two sets. The pair fought with diligence but fell short with scores of 21-19 and 21-16.

In the No. 4 position, Sydney Corbett and Savannah DeCarlo battled through three sets. The pair posted scores of 21-14, 21-14, and 15-11 to add to PBA's lead. The No. 5 flight featured Angela Goggin and Cameron Ring who bested their opponent 21-11 and 21-15.

MATCH 2 | PBA: 3, SLU: 2
PBA continued to work through the losers' bracket, seeking revenge against No. 3 seed Saint Leo. PBA fought until the very end and secured the match 3-2 courtesy of the fourth flight to advance to the Championship match.

In the No. 1 position, Baumgart and Dunbar faced a battle until the very end but dropped their match with scores of 21-17 and 21-14. The No. 2 pair, Albrecht and Nadeau, swept their opponents with scores of 21-13 and 21-18. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Huhtamaki and Plevin, seeing them best their opponent with scores of 21-17 and 21-17. 

In the No. 4 position, Corbett and DeCarlo secured the sweep over Saint Leo after battling through three grueling sets. The pair were the last to finish with scores of 21-19, 21-14, and 15-11. The No. 5 position featured Goggin and Ring who fell short to their opponents with scores of 22-20 and 22-20.

MATCH 3 | PBA: 0, UT: 3
In the inaugural SSC beach volleyball tournament, the Sailfish fought through the loser's bracket and faced adversity to place themselves in the Championship match against No. 1 seed Tampa. PBA put up a fight but fell just short with a score of 3-0. In the No. 1 position, Baumgart and Dunbar along with the No. 4 position, Corbett and DeCarlo, did not finish their match. Their flights did not alter the Sailfish results.

The No. 2 pair featured Albrecht and Nadeau who dropped their match with scores of 21-14 and 21-18. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Plevin and Huhtamaki who forced their opponents to fight until the end. The pair fell short with scores of 21-11 and 23-21. The No. 5 position saw Goggin and Ring fall short with scores of 21-18 and 21-16.

Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in the AVCA Small College Championships. Matches, opponents, and times are to be announced at a later date.
