SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team hit the road for the inaugural Sunshine State Conference beach volleyball tournament. The Sailfish were given the No. 2 seed and a bye through the first round of play. PBA opened the tournament against No. 3 seed Saint Leo but dropped the match 3-2.
MATCH 1 | PBA: 2, SLU: 3
PBA went head-to-head against Saint Leo to open the tournament but fell short 3-2. In the No. 1 position,
Serena Baumgart and
Anna Dunbar missed the mark with scores of 21-17 and 21-15. The No. 2 pair,
Camdyn Albrecht and
Katelyn Nadeau, swept their opponent with scores of 23-21 and 21-10. The No. 3 flight was comprised of
Annika Huhtamaki and
Abby Plevin, seeing them work through a difficult three sets. The pair fought with diligence, but fell short with scores of 21-17, 21-19, and 17-15.
In the No. 4 position,
Sydney Corbett and
Savannah DeCarlo evened the match with scores of 21-17 and 21-18. The No. 5 flight featured
Angela Goggin and
Cameron Ring who dropped their match 21-11 and 21-18.
MATCH 2 | PBA: 3, EU: 0
PBA looked to rally through the losers' bracket, starting with Eckerd. The Sailfish worked diligently to secure the 3-0 victory and advance to day two of the SSC Tournament. In the No. 1 position, Baumgart and Dunbar did not finish their match along with the No. 5 position, Goggin and Ring. Both flights did not alter the Sailfish results.
The No. 2 pair, Albrecht and Nadeau, swept their opponents with scores of 21-17 and 21-18. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Huhtamaki and Plevin, seeing them best their opponent with scores of 22-20 and 21-12. In the No. 4 position, Corbett and DeCarlo secured the sweep over Eckerd with scores of 21-13 and 21-15.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action tomorrow, April 12 as they face No. 4 seed Florida Southern at 11:30 a.m. (EST) in Saint Leo, Fla.
