Beach Volleyball Picks Up Win on Day 1 of Hatters invite

DELAND, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team traveled to compete in day one of the Hatters Invitational. The Sailfish were seen competing against No. 14 Florida Atlantic and Erskine University and splitting on the day. 

Palm Beach Atlantic will close out the Hatters Invitational with matches against Stetson and Florida State University. The 'Fish first match will be at 8:00 a.m. followed by their second match at 12:45 p.m.

MATCH 1 | PBA: 0, FAU: 5
In their first match of the day, the Sailfish went head-to-head with No. 14 Florida Atlantic. In the No. 1 position, Serena Baumgart and Anna Dunbar dropped the opening set with scores of 21-12 and 21-15. The No. 2 pair, Camdyn Albrecht and Katelyn Nadeau, followed by battling through three grueling sets. The pair dropped the first contest 21-13 before rallying back for the 21-19 victory. Tied at one apiece, the pair fell just short 15-9. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Annika Huhtamaki and Abby Plevin who fell just short to their opponents with scores of 21-13 and 21-19.

In the No. 4 position, Sydney Corbett and Savannah DeCarlo worked swiftly but fell just short with scores of 21-19 and 21-15. The No. 5 flight was comprised of Zoye Caroline and Angela Goggin. The pair were seen posting scores of 21-15 and 21-15 but ultimately was not enough as the Sailfish fell 5-0.

MATCH 2 | PBA: 5, EU: 0
In their second match of the Invite, the Sailfish battled back from their first match of the day. PBA battled against Erskine and was seen sweeping them, 5-0. In the No. 1 position, Baumgart and Dunbar stomped their opponent with scores of 21-17 and 21-8. In the No. 2 pair, Albrecht and Nadeau stomped their competition by marking scores of 21-11 and 21-7. The No. 3 flight was comprised of Huhtamaki and Plevin, seeing them post scores of 21-13 and 21-14.

In the No. 4 position, Corbett and DeCarlo continued PBA's run with scores of 21-13 and 21-15. The Sailfish held a 4-0 advantage over Erskine, seeing the No. 5 flight secure the sweep for PBA. The pair was comprised of Caroline and Goggin, seeing them record scores of 21-15 and 21-19 to secure the victory.
