FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball traveled to compete in a tri-match against (RV) Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southern College. The Sailfish dropped their first contest to FGCU (4-1) but rallied back to secure the victory against FSC (5-0).
Palm Beach Atlantic will remain on the road as they travel to DeLand, Fla. to compete in the Hatters Invitational this weekend. The invite will start on Friday, March 21, seeing PBA face-off against Florida Atlantic and Erskine. The Sailfish will close the invite on Saturday, March 22 with matches against Stetson and Florida State University.
MATCH 1 | PBA: 1, FGCU: 4
In their first match of the day, PBA out forth their best flight as they went head-to-head with (RV) FGCU. In the No. 1 position,
Anna Dunbar and
Serena Baumgart battled through each set but fell just short with scores of 21-19 and 21-14. The No. 2 pair featured
Camdyn Albrecht and
Katelyn Nadeau who rallied closely with their opponents but dropped the match 21-18 and 21-19. The No. 3 flight saw
Sydney Corbett and
Savannah DeCarlo missing the mark with scores of 21-14 and 21-12 to see PBA trail 3-0.
The No. 4 position included
Abby Plevin and
Annika Huhtamaki. The pair were seen battling until the final points of each set but fell short with scores of 21-17 and 21-19. The No. 5 flight featured
Desi Waterman and Angel Goggin dominating their opponents and collecting the lone victory for the Sailfish. The pair were seen notching scores of 21-13 and 21-18 to best their opponent.
MATCH 2 | PBA: 5, FSC: 0
The Sailfish looked to bounce back in their second match of the day against Florida Southern. In the No. 1 flight, Dunbar and Baumgart had to fight through three tough sets. After dropping the first set 21-17, the pair battled their way back and posted scores of 21-18 and 15-13 to give PBA a 1-0 advantage over the Mocs. The No. 2 position saw Albrecht and Nadeau quickly handle business with scores of 21-14 and 21-19 to elevate the 'Fish to a 2-0 lead. The No. 3 pair featured Corbett and DeCarlo fighting through a gruesome three sets. The pair picked up the first set (21-17) before dropping the second set, 20-22. With an even playing field, the pair worked to a 15-10 victory and bumped PBA to a 3-0 advantage.
The No. 4 position saw Plevin and Huhtamaki following in the previous flight's footsteps with a three-set rally with their opponent. The pair dropped their first set (21-19) but quickly rallied to secure set two, 21-18. In a nail-bitter of a third set, they pulled out the victory by marking scores of 15-12. The No. 5 flight featured Waterman and Goggin also battling through three sets. The pair fell short in their first set (21-17) but turned the tides in set two with a 21-18 win. An edge of your set third set saw the pair mark scores of 15-12 to secure the sweep over the Mocs.
