MIAMI, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team closed out their weekend at the FIU Invitational with match ups against the University of Utah and Florida International University. The Sailfish fell just short in both matches, posting scores of 4-1 against Utah and 5-0 against FIU.
Palm Beach Atlantic will return to its home court, the Sailfish Beach Volleyball Courts, on Friday, March 7 for a tri-match against USF and Tampa. PBA will face USF at 10:00 a.m. (EST) and Tampa at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
MATCH 1 | PBA: 1, UU: 4
For the first match of the day, the Sailfish faced off against Utah. In the No. 1 position, Anna Dunbar and Serena Baumgart. The pair challenged their opponent but fell short with scores of 21-19 and 21-16. In the No. 2 flight, Camdyn Albrecht and Katelyn Nadeau posted scores of 21-10 and 21-13 but were unable to secure a victory over their opponent. The No. 3 pair was comprised of Abby Plevin and Annika Huhtamaki. The pair put up a fight but were unable to keep Utah at bay. Plevin and Huhtamaki were seen posting scores of 21-14 and 21-16.
At the No. 4 position, Sydney Corbett and Savannah DeCarlo marked scores of 21-13 and 21-14 but were unsuccessful on the court. A fierce No. 5 flight featured Lauren Sayre and Chloe Narancich stealing a match point from Utah. The pair swept their opponent with scores of 23-21 and 21-19 but was ultimately not enough as the Sailfish fell 4-1.
MATCH 2 | PBA: 0, FIU: 5
In their second match of the day, PBA went head-to-head with FIU. In the No. 1 flight, Dunbar and Baumgart dropped their contest with scores of 21-12 and 22-20. The No. 2 pair saw Albrecht and Nadeau mark scores of 21-15 and 21-11 but were unable to secure a set. The No. 3 position featured Plevin and Huhtamaki. The two were seen notching scores of 21-17 and 21-16 but just missed the mark and saw PBA trailing 3-0.
The No. 4 flight was comprised of Corbett and DeCarlo who fought with grit but fell just short 21-15 and 21-19. The No. 5 pair saw Desi Waterman and Angela Goggin force their competitors to work diligently, but were unable to secure the match as PBA fell 5-0.
