WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team began its season on Saturday at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
PBA began its season with a matchup against fellow Sunshine State Conference school, Florida Southern. Saturday was also the first match of the program for new head coach Jazz Schmidt. PBA looked to keep its momentum going after winning an exhibition match earlier in the morning against Palm Beach State College, 4-1.
The No. 1 position was tightly contested with PBA's
Anna Dunbar and
Serena Baumgart coming up short, 21-19, 21-19. Camdyn Albright and
Katelyn Nadeau picked up a win at the No. 2 pair, 22-20, 21-15.
Abby Plevin and
Annika Huhtamaki defeated Sydney Melher and Nicole Eden at the No. 3 flight, 21-18, 21-10.
Sydney Corbett made her beach volleyball debut after playing this fall for the indoor volleyball team. She played with
Savannah DeCarlo at the No. 4 flight, winning 21-11, 21-18.
Desi Waterman and
Angela Goggin got a hard-fought win at the No. 5 flight, 21-13, 16-21, 15-6.
Zoye Caroline and
Cameron Ring came out on top in the extra match, winning 28-26, 21-16.
PBA is back in action next Saturday when it hosts a tri-match against Warner and Webber International.
