Sailfish Drop First Matches at FIU Invite

MIAMI, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team traveled to the FIU Invitational for a weekend of top-tier competition. PBA was seen dropping their first two matches of the season to the University of Southern Mississippi and Florida Atlantic University. 

Palm Beach Atlantic will close out the FIU Invitational tomorrow, March 1, with two matches against Utah and Florida International. The Sailfish will face Utah at 10:00 a.m. (EST) followed by a match against FIU at 2:00 p.m. (EST).

MATCH 1 | PBA: 0USM5

In the No. 1 position, Anna Dunbar and Serena Baumgart put up a fight against USM but fell just short to their opponents with scores of 21-19 and 26-24. In the No. 2 flight, Camdyn Albrecht and Katelyn Nadeau posted scores of 21-17 and 21-18 but just missed the mark as the Sailfish fell behind 2-0. The No. 3 pair saw Sydney Corbett and Savannah DeCarlo fight with grit against their opponents. After pushing the first set to 23-21, they were unable to secure the victory in set two and dropped the contest 21-19.

An exhilarating No. 4 position saw Desi Waterman and Angela Goggin rally for three sets against their opponent but were unable to break Southern Miss's momentum. Waterman and Goggin posted scores of 21-18, 21-14, and 15-13. The No. 5 flight followed in their path and rallied for three sets as well. The No. 5 flight featured Abby Plevin and Annika Huhtamaki, seeing them with a 14-21 victory in set one but were unable to hold the lead as the Sailfish dropped, 5-0.

MATCH 2 | PBA: 0FAU5

In their second match of the day, PBA faced a tough FAU lineup. In the No. 1 flight, Dunbar and Baumgart dropped the opening match with scores of 21-12 and 21-11. The No. 2 position saw Albrecht and Nadeau try to rally from behind but just missed the mark with scores of 21-13 and 21-12. The No. 3 pair featured Corbett and DeCarlo marking scores of 21-11 and 21-11 to leave the 'Fish trailing, 3-0.

In the No. 4 position, Plevin and Huhtamaki were able to notch 17 points in their first set but fell short with scores of 21-17 and 21-14. In the No. 5 flight, Waterman and Goggin posted scores of 21-13 and 21-15 but was ultimately not enough as the Sailfish missed the mark, 5-0.
