WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's cross country team was ranked No. 26 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll, the organization announced this week.
The Sailfish earned the national recognition following a historic performance at the NCAA South Regional Championships, where the team captured its first regional title and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships for just the second time in program history.
PBA placed four runners on the All-South Region team, the most in school history, led by senior
Beth Sykes, who finished eighth in 21:49.82. She was followed closely by
Dominyka Petraskaite (ninth, 21:53.85),
Ruth Spijker (12th, 21:57.45) and
Jeanne Corroy (15th, 22:08.52).
The Sailfish's climb into the top 30 highlights the rise of the program under head coach Mark Rennis, as PBA has continued to rewrite its record books throughout the fall. The team's regional title came just weeks after a second-place showing at the Sunshine State Conference Championships.
PBA will compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
