TAVARES, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team finished their season today as they wrapped up play at the AVCA Small College Championship. The Sailfish defeated Carson-Newman 3-0 before falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville 4-1 in the silver bracket championship.
Match 1: PBA - 3 | CNU - 0
The Sailfish and the Eagles squared off for the first time this season as PBA won decisively. Playing to victory, the 'Fish took the three first matches finished to move on to the championship match.
Anna Dunbar and
Eva Herz took the No. 2 match in straight sets 21-15, 21-10 while
Katelyn Nadeau and
Oda Homme teamed up to win the No. 5 match 21-19, 21-9. PBA's No. 4 team of
Julia Golichowski and
Abby Plevin secured the victory by winning the third set 15-10 after splitting the first two sets. With the win, PBA earned the right to play for the bracket championship against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Match 2: TAMKU - 4 | PBA - 1
PBA had defeated the Javelina the past three seasons at the AVCA Small College Championship, but TAMKU got their revenge today against the 'Fish winning 4-1. Four of the five matches went to three sets but PBA was able to capture just one of those. Dunbar and Herz were able to capture the No. 2 flight with a 15-7 third-set win. PBA's top pair of
Gabriella Aziz and
Abigail Mason fell 15-9 in the final set while the Sailfish team of
Lola Ackman and
Annika Huhtamaki lost their No. 3 match 21-16, 21-13. Golichowski and Plevin dropped their third set 15-9 while
Karla Cantero and
Oda Homme fell in an extended third set at the No. 5 position 17-15.
PBA's season ends with a 19-17 record and a second-place finish in the silver bracket which represents a sixth-place finish overall at the AVCA Small College Championship.
