Beach Volleyball Wins Both Matches on Day One of AVCA Small College Championships

TAVARAS, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team began play at the AVCA Small College Championships on Friday.

The Sailfish entered the tournament as the sixth overall seed. PBA won both matches by a score of 3-1. The 'Fish started the day by defeating the Lions from Emmanuel, followed by a win over fellow SSC member Eckerd.

Katelyn Nadeau and Julia Norville represented the Sailfish in the Pairs Challenge. The pair won their pool by defeating Tusculum's Mia Johnson and Morgan Pacione 21-7, 21-17 and taking down Eckerd's Jocelyn Escoffery and Mariana Olivares-Cely 21-17, 21-11.

PBA finishes pool play on Saturday with a matchup against Colorado Mesa at 11:15 a.m. 

Match One – PBA: 3, Emmanuel: 1

The Sailfish dropped the No. 1 pair. Gabriella Aziz and Abigail Mason came up short against Ellie Jackson and Isabela Zukowska, 21-18, 17-21, 14-16.

Lola Ackman and Annika Huhtamaki won at No. 3 over Aaliyah Lobendahn and Lauren Pace 21-16, 21-10.

Julia Golichowski and Abby Plevin earned a convincing win as the No. 4 pair. They defeated Maya Heden and Cailin Pritchard 21-9, 21-3.

Karla Cantero and Oda Homme won their match at No. 5 in dominant fashion. They defeated Ella Johns and Rachel McGlamery 21-0, 21-0.

Anna Dunbar and Eva Herz's match went unfinished once the match was clinched.

Match Two – PBA: 3, Eckerd: 1

Aziz and Mason bounced back for a win at the No. 1 pair. They took down Madison Hardbarger and Anna Jupin 21-9, 21-18.

Dunbar and Herz took down Melanie Silva and Addie White at No. 2, winning 21-18, 21-18. The Tritons stole one No. 3, taking down Ackman and Huhtamaki, 21-17, 21-15.

Golichowski and Plevin needed three sets to finish off the Tritons but got the job done. The No. 4 pair defeated Brooke Hand and Jessi Meghreblian 21-7, 18-21, 15-12.

Cantero and Homme's match at No. 5 went unfinished once the match was clinched.
