TAMPA, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team returned to action for day two of competition at the Spartan Invitational. The Sailfish split their matches for the second straight, falling to Saint Leo 4-1 before bouncing back to defeat Florida Southern 4-1. PBA's record moves to 14-15 on the season after the 2-2 weekend.
Match 1: SLU - 4 | PBA - 1
The Sailfish started off their day by taking on a familiar Saint Leo side. PBA came into the match with an 11-1 record all-time against the Lions, after defeating them narrowly earlier this season 3-2. Today, however, Saint Leo got the upper hand on their way to a 4-1 victory. PBA's lone point came at the No. 5 flight as
Abby Plevin and
Julia Golichowski performed well on their way to a straight-set 21-17, 22-20 win. The rest of the matches went the way of the Lions, starting with the No. 1 match where
Gabriella Aziz and
Abigail Mason fell 21-16, 21-19. PBA pairs of
Lola Ackman and
Annika Huhtamaki at No. 3 and
Karla Cantero and
Julia Norville at No. 4 each fell in straight sets.
Anna Dunbar and
Eva Herz were able to push the No. 2 match to three sets, taking the second 22-20, but came up short in the third 15-8.Â
Match 2: PBA - 4 | FSC - 1
PBA squared off with the Mocs for the second time in as many days. After defeating FSC 3-2 yesterday, the Sailfish were more impressive today, downing their opponents by a 4-1 scoreline. Aziz and Mason bounced back from their match this morning to defeat the Mocs top pair in a third set 15-11. Dunbar and Huhtamaki came out on top at the No. 2 position for PBA as they prevailed in a third set 15-12. Herz and Cantero teamed up as PBA's No. 3 pair and cruised in straight sets 21-18, 21-13. Plevin and Golichowski stayed perfect on the day as they took their No. 5 flight match 21-14, 22-20. The Mocs got their lone point at the No. 4 position as
Katelyn Nadeau and Norville fell 21-17, 21-18.
The Sailfish are back in action next weekend as they will play two matches at the Rinker Athletic Campus on Saturday. It will be senior day for the 'Fish, as they will honor their seven seniors.
