3/16/2024 3:11:00 PM

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team finished up their toughest stretch of the season today with matches against No. 5 ranked TCU and No. 16 FAU. After facing No. 1 USC and No. 12 FIU yesterday, the Sailfish were able to take one point off the Horned Frogs in the morning before falling 5-0 to the host Owls in the afternoon. PBA's record drops to 9-10 after facing four of the top division I sides in the nation this weekend.

Match 1: #5 TCU - 4 | PBA - 1
The Sailfish battled with TCU for the first time in program history. The Horned Frogs entered the match 13-1 on the season and one of the best sides in the country. PBA was able to take one game off TCU before falling 4-1. The 'Fish found their point at the No. 2 position as Gabriella Aziz and Lola Ackman took the opening set 21-15 before their opponents were forced to resign due to injury. In the other flights, the Horned Frogs came out on top in straight sets starting with Anna Dunbar and Eva Herz falling in to No. 1 match 21-9, 21-14. Abigail Mason and Annika Huhtamaki competed well in the No. 3 match but came up short 21-19, 21-16. Karla Cantero and Katelyn Nadeau fell in the No. 4 flight 21-12, 21-10 while Abby Plevin and Julia Golichowski went down at No. 5 21-9, 21-16.

Match 2: #16 FAU - 5 | PBA - 0
PBA finished up their ranked weekend with a match against the hosts FAU. Facing the Owls for the first time this season, the Sailfish came up on the wrong end of two-set matches across the board. Dunbar and Herz played two close sets in the No. 1 match but fell 21-15, 21-19. Aziz and Ackman went down 21-14, 21-13 in the No. 2 match while Mason and Huhtamaki lost the No. 3 match after falling 21-9 in the first set, but pushing the Owls to an extended 25-23 second set. PBA's No. 4 pair of Cantero and Nadeau dropped their sets 21-16, 21-14 while FAU completed the sweep in the No. 5 match as Plevin and Golichowski dropped a hard-fought second set 23-21.

The Sailfish got to experience the unique opportunity this weekend of facing nationally top-ranked sides from across the country that they don't normally see in USC and TCU. PBA finished the weekend taking a game a piece off the two sides as Plevin and Golichowski won their match against USC and Aziz and Ackman won against TCU. The 'Fish have a busy week upcoming as they go to Fort Myers in the middle of the week to face FGCU and FAU before hosting a tournament next weekend where they will play four matches against division II opponents.
