MIAMI, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball returned to action today as they hit the road for two matches hosted by Florida International. The Sailfish cruised to wins over Emmanuel, 5-0, and Barry, 4-1, to take their record to 5-4 on the season.
Match 1: PBA - 5 | Emmanuel - 0
The Sailfish and the Lions met today for the first time in the history of each program as PBA came away with the inaugural victory as they captured all five matches in straight sets. The 'Fish are still in search of their best pairings as they continued to mix and match players together in different flights.
Anna Dunbar and
Eva Herz teamed up at the No. 1 position and came away with a 21-10, 21-16 victory.
Gabriella Aziz and
Lola Ackman were victorious in the No. 2 flight as they won 21-12, 21-17 while
Abigail Mason and
Oda Homme won the No. 3 match 21-10, 21-12.
Karla Cantero and
Katelyn Nadeau played in PBA's No. 4 pairing and cruised 21-12, 21-6 while
Abby Plevin and
Julia Golichowski finished off the Lions 21-7, 21-10.
Match 2: PBA - 4 | Barry - 1
PBA and the Bucs squared off for the second time this season, in a matchup that will be a Sunshine State Conference match starting next season. After defeating Barry 5-0 at home when the sides met earlier this year, the 'Fish came away with a 4-1 win this afternoon. Golichowski and Plevin kept their good form going in the No. 5 match as they won their opening set by a staggering 21-2 margin before taking the second 21-13. Cantero and Nadeau chalked up another win in PBA's column as they won the No. 4 match 21-17, 21-11. Mason and
Annika Huhtamaki secured the win for PBA by capturing the third point as they won the No. 3 flight 21-8, 21-8 while Ackman and Aziz came out on top comfortably in the No. 2 match 21-8, 21-14. The lone defeat came at the No. 1 spot for the Sailfish as Dunbar and Herz fell in straight sets 21-17, 21-14.
The Sailfish are back in action for two more matches tomorrow to close out the FIU Invitational. PBA will play Emmanuel again in the morning before playing hosts FIU in the afternoon. The 'Fish fell to No. 13 ranked FIU 5-0 when the two sides played last weekend.
