BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team continued play at the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational today. After going 1-1 yesterday against two division I opponents, the Sailfish fell to Saint Leo 4-1 before falling to No. 13 ranked FAU 5-0. The Sailfish record drops to 4-6 after the defeats today.
Match 1: PBA - 1 | SLU - 4Â
The Sailfish squared off with the Lions for the second time this season, as PBA beat Saint Leo 3-2 earlier this year, but were unable to duplicate that result today. The 'Fish started the match with
Karla Cantero and
Marilyn Cesaro dropping a close three-setter at the No. 4 position 21-18, 16-21, 15-11.
Lunden Evans and
Mya Krystosek dropped down to the No. 2 position but failed to get a result as they fell in straight sets 21-17, 21-16. PBA'sÂ
Gabriella Aziz and
Ashleigh Holweger dropped the No. 1 match 21-18, 21-14 while
Sydney Wagner and
Julia Golichowski fell 21-17, 21-15 at the No. 5 match. The lone victory for the 'Fish came at the No. 3 spot as
Savannah DeCarlo and
Natalie Skopalova won 21-13 in both sets.
Match 2: PBA - 0 | No. 13 FAU - 5Â Â
The Sailfish faced their toughest test of the season
 as they had to play the No. 13 ranked Owls directly after their match against the Lions. Aziz and Holweger returned to the No. 2 position and fell 21-16, 21-9. Wagner and Golichowski paired up again at the No. 4 position and went down 21-17, 21-10 to move their record to 2-2 together this year. The Owls secured the match by taking the No. 3 position match as Skopalova and DeCarlo lost in two sets 21-15, 21-7. Evans and Krystosek returned to their usual No. 1 position and dropped the first set 21-15 and an extended second 23-21. The closest match was the No. 5 position as Cantero and Mason fell in two extended sets 22-20, 24-22.
The Sailfish will look to get back on track next weekend as they head to St. Petersburg for the Eckerd Battle at the Bay. PBA will face Missouri State and Eckerd on Friday and Saint Leo and Tampa on Saturday.Â
