ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team started play this weekend today at Eckerd as they hosted the Battle at the Bay. The Sailfish went 1-0 on the day with a 4-1 win over Missouri State in the morning to move their record overall to 5-6 on the season.
Match 1: PBA - 4 | Missouri State - 1
The Sailfish started the day by taking down another division I opponent in Missouri State. The Sailfish got off to a strong start in the match as their No. 1 pairing of
Lunden Evans and
Mya Krystosek were victorious as they took down their opponents easily in two sets 21-8, 21-6. PBA pulled out a close three-setter at the No. 2 position as
Ashleigh Holweger and
Gabriella Aziz teamed up and won 20-22, 21-11, 15-11.
Natalie Skopalova and
Savannah DeCarlo played together at the No. 3 position and clinched the match for the Sailfish as they pulled out another close three-set match 21-10, 17-21, 15-11.
Abigail Mason and
Karla Cantero were together at the No. 4 spot for the 'Fish and the tandem rolled in two sets 21-13, 21-14. The lone defeat for the Sailfish came at the No. 5 match as
Julia Golichowski and
Sydney Wagner fell 21-17 in both sets.
The Sailfish were scheduled to face Eckerd this afternoon, but the match was postponed until tomorrow morning due to weather in the area. The Sailfish will now play Eckerd, Saint Leo, and Tampa to close out play for the weekend.
