BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team finished up play at the Florida Atlantic Tournament today by facing No. 20 ranked Florida Gulf Coast. It was the fifth time the two sides have met this season as the Eagles once again came out on top, this time winning 5-0.
PBA - 0, FGCU - 5
The Sailfish pushed the No. 20 ranked team in most of the sets played today, but PBA was just unable to get over the top in any of the six tandem matches.
Abby DeVido and
Lyndzey Minter were the first Sailfish side to go down as they fell in straight sets 21-15, 22-20.
Gabriella Aziz and
Emma Vann paired up at the No. 4 position and captured the first set 21-14 but were unable to get the second or third going down 21-14, 15-12. PBA's top pair of
Jazz Schmidt and
Lunden Evans suffered just their sixth loss all year as they went down 21-15 in both sets. Olivia Fickel and
Abigail Mason lost in two sets 21-8, 21-19 while
Julia Golichowski and
Karla Cantero fell in two close sets at No. 3 21-19, 21-15.
Bailey Myott and
Lorrayne Silva played an extended third set in the extra match but came up short 17-21, 21-10, 18-16.
The Sailfish wrapped up play in their regular season today and will look ahead to the AVCA Small College Championship. The championships will begin on April 14 and extend through April 16.
