Sailfish Cruise Past Eckerd and Florida Southern

3/26/2022 4:23:00 PM

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team hit the road today to play two matches against Eckerd and Florida Southern. The Sailfish made quick work of both sides, defeating the Tritons 4-0 before taking down the host Moccasins 5-0. The Sailfish move their record to 13-10 on the season.

Match 1: PBA - 4, Eckerd - 0

The Sailfish started off their day with the clean sweep of Eckerd for the second time this season. Jazz Schmidt and Lunden Evans took care of their business at the No. 1 position as they won a close opening set 21-18 before running away with the second 21-10. The No. 2 match of Lyndzey Minter and Abby DeVido went the way of the Sailfish as they won in straight sets 21-17, 21-14. Julia Golichowski and Karla Cantero looked impressive as the No. 3 pair winning 21-10, 21-7 while PBA's No. 4 pair of Bailey Myott and Gabriella Aziz had to go an extended three sets to earn the victory 19-21, 21-12, 16-14. The two sides didn't have the usual No. 5 match as Eckerd was short-handed.

Match 2: PBA - 5, FSC - 0

The Sailfish turned their attention to a Mocs side that entered the day with a 15-5 record but hadn't faced a schedule full of ranked division one opponents like the Sailfish have. PBA had no difficulties with FSC starting with Schmidt and Evans who moved their No. 1 position record to 19-4 with a dominant 21-4, 21-10 victory. Minter and DeVido moved to 14-9 on the year as they won each of the two sets 21-15 while Myott and Aziz won their second match of the day and season together easily at No. 3 21-12, 21-10. Golichowski and Cantero won their No. 4 match 21-19, 21-14 and Olivia Finckel and Abigail Mason won at No. 5 21-14 and pulled out a close second set 23-21.

The Sailfish will return home for a tri-match on April 2 where they will face the Moccasins and a talented Tampa side while the Sailfish will honor seven seniors before the matches.
