3/18/2022 5:44:00 PM

DELAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team started play at the Stetson Invitational today by facing two DI opponents in North Alabama and North Florida out of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Sailfish started the day by taking down North Alabama 4-1 but fell against the Ospreys for the second time this week, losing 1-4.

Match 1: PBA - 4, UNA - 1

The 'Fish started the day on a positive as they took down the Lions of North Alabama. Bailey Myott and Lorrayne Silva teamed up at the No. 5 position and got the victory to give PBA the first point as they won in straight sets 21-16, 21-19. The Sailfish doubled their lead as Karla Cantero and Julia Golichowski pulled out a close three-set match at the No. 4 position. They dropped the first set 13-21 but bounced back to win the next two sets 21-15, 15-12. Abby DeVido and Lyndzey Minter clinched the match for the Sailfish as they won their No. 2 match in two close sets 21-19, 21-18. The Lions captured their lone point of the match at the No. 3 position as Gabriella Aziz and Abigail Mason fell in a three-set match, 21-19, 15-21, and 15-11. Jazz Schmidt and Lunden Evans found success in their No. 1 match as they rolled in straight sets 21-13, 21-12. The tandem of Kayleigh Hall and Olivia Finckel were victorious in the extra match, winning in straight sets 21-14, 21-18.

Match 2: PBA - 1, UNF - 4

The Sailfish and the Ospreys faced each other just three days ago when the Sailfish fell 3-2 in an extremely close match. Unfortunately, today delivered the same result as they fell in another close match 4-1. Myott and Finckel played together in the No. 5 match as they dropped the first set 21-15 before falling in an extended second set 23-21. Aziz and Mason stayed together in the No. 4 match and they were able to take the first set 25-23 but were unable to close out the match falling in the second 21-19 and the third 15-12. Minter and DeVido were victorious when they faced UNF earlier this week but they fell today even after they captured the first set in their No. 2 position match 21-19, falling in three sets, 21-19 and 21-15 in the second and third. Cantero and Golichowski fell in their match 21-17, 21-16, but the Sailfish were able to find success at the No. 1 match as Schmidt and Evans won in straight sets 21-17, 21-13 to move to 15-2 as a pair this season.
