WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team hosted their first tri-match of the season as they welcomed in Stevenson University and Eckerd College. The Sailfish easily dismantled the Mustangs, winning 5-0 before doing the same to the Tritons and taking them down 5-0. The wins take PBA's record to 9-3 on the season.
Match 1: PBA - 5, Stevenson - 0
It was a cold Florida morning at the Rinker Athletic Campus, but the action was heating up on the beach volleyball courts as the Sailfish took down the Mustangs, sweeping every match in straight sets to win 5-0.
Bailey Myott and
Emma Vann started PBA off by earning an impressive looking win at the No. 4 position winning 21-14, 21-8.
Olivia Finckel and
Karla Cantero were together as the No. 5 tandem and they were victorious in both of their sets 21-14. PBA's top duo of
Jazz Schmidt and
Lunden Evans made quick work of their opponents, winning in a business-like fashion taking the first set 21-8 and the second 21-5. With the overall match wrapped up for the 'Fish,
Lyndzey Minter and
Abby DeVido won at the No. 2 position 21-10, 21-16 before
Gabriella Aziz and
Abigail Mason won at the No. 3 position 21-12, 21-18 to complete the sweep.
Caroline Henderson and
Julia Golichowski teamed up in the extra match and were able to come out on top against their opponents 21-18, 21-18.
Match 2: PBA - 5, Eckerd - 0
The Sailfish carried over their impressive play from the morning to the afternoon as they took down the Tritons of Eckerd. The Sailfish might have found something at the No. 5 position as Finckel and Cantero played together for the second time today and they won easily 21-9, 21-9 to move their record to 2-0 together. Myott and Vann stayed together as the No. 4 team and won easily 21-13 in the first set and pulled out a close second 21-19 to even their season record at 4-4 as a pair this year. The 'Fish are set with their top-two teams as Minter and DeVido rolled at position No. 2 21-11, 21-12 as they are now 9-3 on the year. At the top Schmidt and Evans had no problem with the Tritons' top pair winning 21-14, 21-7 to move to 11-1 on the season. Aziz and Mason were able to come out on top in two close sets at the No. 3 position, winning 21-17, 21-19, and taking their record to 7-3 as a tandem.
The Sailfish took care of business on their home turf as the matches today were solid prep for PBA's trip to Miami on Tuesday. The Sailfish will face off against the No. 17 ranked FIU Panthers, a receiving votes North Florida side, and Florida Memorial.
